Calculated result

Enter a denominator greater than zero.

No “good” or “bad” benchmark is applied. Context varies by platform, industry and account size.

Which denominator to choose

Engagement rate has no single definition, and changing the denominator makes the same post look very different. That is why the tool does not choose for you — it shows the denominator you picked alongside the formula.

Followers
The most common denominator and the one that compares across accounts. But it measures the size of the account rather than how many people saw the post: a low-reach post scores low on a large account.
Reach
The number of unique people who saw the post. Closest to the performance of the content itself, since it accounts for people who saw it and did not engage. Poor for comparing accounts, because reach depends on distribution.
Impressions
Total views, where the same person can be counted more than once. Being larger than reach, it produces the lowest rate. Consistent for tracking one post over time, misleading for a one-off comparison.
Stay on one denominator
The real defect is not which denominator you pick but changing it between posts. Two numbers are only comparable if the same formula produced them — which is why the formula is shown next to the result.

Frequently asked questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

The selected interactions are added, divided by followers, reach or impressions, and multiplied by 100.

Does the tool label a result good or bad?

No. It does not invent a benchmark that varies by platform, industry and account size; it only shows the mathematical result.
